Hoya Care Guide

Hoya care at a glance

  • Native habitat: Tropical and subtropical regions of Eastern Asia (including China, India and Thailand) and Australia.
  • Light: Bright, indirect light.
  • Humidity: Tolerates average indoor humidity, but Hoyas prefer high humidity.
  • Water: Wait until the substrate has dried out significantly before watering again. Overwatering can lead to root rot. Their leaves store water, so they're forgiving if you forget.
  • Toxicity: Non-toxic to pets and humans.
  • Substrate: An airy, chunky, fast-draining mix to avoid root rot.
  • Temperature: 60 to 85°F (15 to 29°C) for the best health and growth.

Tip from The Plant Lady: Fertilize at half strength with every watering during the growing season. Hoyas can be trellised or grown as a trailing plant.
