Alocasia care at a glance
- Native habitat: Tropical rainforests of Southeast Asia.
- Light: Bright, indirect light to keep leaves vibrant.
- Humidity: Loves higher humidity. Aim for 60%+ if possible.
- Water: Keep soil lightly moist but never soggy. Allow the top layer to dry slightly between waterings.
- Toxicity: Toxic to pets and humans if ingested.
- Substrate: A chunky, airy mix that drains fast to protect roots. Try my Chunky Mix. Alocasias love the added worm castings and charcoal for nutrients and root health.
- Temperature: Prefers warmth, 65 to 85°F (18 to 29°C). Avoid drafts or cold rooms.
Tip from The Plant Lady: Alocasias grow stronger over time as they adapt to your home. Crispy edges can happen and are totally normal. Fertilize at half strength with every watering during the growing season.
